Deaf, Hearing Loss, Hearing Impaired Scholarships

Scholarships for deaf students are an important first step to a college degree and a rewarding job. Colleges and universities now provide adaptations for deaf or hard of hearing students; these scholarships will help knock down that last – financial – obstacle.

International

The Millie Brother Scholarship for Children of Deaf Adults

Maryland

Maryland State Grange Deaf Scholarship

Michigan

Adam Miller Fund

Provides enrichment assistance for University of Michigan students with hearing, visual or mobility disabilities. Personal assistive devices, personal training, extracurricular and social activities, learning experiences and community outreach initiatives are provided by this fund.

The Saul and Shirley Lederer Fund

For University of Michigan students who have hearing, visual, and mobility impairments or chronic health issues and are active in their University community. Financial data: $1,000. Number awarded: 2

National

AG Bell College Scholarship Awards Program

The Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing provides scholarships for undergraduate and graduate full-time students. Award amounts range from $1000 to $10,000. Follow the link for further information on applicant hearing loss requirements and the application process.

Gallaudet University's Department of Social Work

The Federal Department of Education has given Gallaudet University's Department of Social Work a $400,000 grant to identify and train school social workers.Recipients will recieve half tuition scholarship throughout all four semesters, a stipend per semester, travel assistance to and from area internships, competitive and flexible graduate degree, full support to attend the School Social Work Association of America's annual conference. GUAA Graduate Fellowship Fund

Provides financial assistance to students in pursuit of graduate study. Applicants mush be deaf or hard of hearing graduates of Gallaudet University, or of another accredited university.

Minnie Pearl Ear Foundation Scholarship

Provides financial assistance to students who have a significant (severe to profound) bilateral hearing loss, and plan to attend a junior college, university, or technical school full-time. Financial data: $2,500.

Sertoma Hard of Hearing and Deaf Scholarship

Student must have a minimum 40dB bilateral hearing loss as evidenced on audiogram by an SRT of 40dB or greater in both ears, are attending school on a full time basis at a college or university in the U.S., and have a minimum 3.2 GPA.
