Women want to look fierce, and we demand fashion that flatters our bodies whether we‘re standing up or sitting pretty. Tiffiny Carlson, a C6 quadriplegic with 17 years experience shopping for her seated body, shares her picks from one of her favorite clothing sites, ModCloth.com.

1. Ten Button Salute Dress: This fitted shell dress has a fun military design and a flat front. Fitted dresses with a flat front, meaning there’s no extra bulk in the front of the dress (near the waistline area), is the only wayto go if you‘re sitting all day. Remember, if the garment says “Fitted,” the likelihood of it looking faboosh on you theentire time you’re in your wheelchair is a no-worry affair. Fitted dresses, if sized right, define the waistline, which canget hidden in the sitting position.
2. Derby Darling Booties: Putting on boots can be quite the chore if you have leg and feet mobility problems. The unique ankle cutout in this boot gives you an easy way to get in and adjust your foot as it slides into - sometimes awkwardly - the foot of the boot. The unique back zipper also helps with getting them on. And the low yet still attractive 2.5 inch heel is manageable for sitting on a foot plate all day. Pair with brightly colored socks for a nice contrast with the tan leather.
3. Gramercy Park Dress: The dropped waist design is another secret to looking great while sitting in your chair, as the lower waistline elongates the torso. This elegant frock, in addition to having a dropped waist, has a versatile look. Depending on the accessories, it would work well for both day or evening. And the sleeveless design will make manual wheelchair users happy (no dirty sleeves to fret over). For an extra “wow” factor, wear your hair up to show-off the mother of pearl keyhole at the rear collar.
4. Kissed Me Dress: Look as tempting as a pink frosted cupcake in this ruffle-laden empire waist dress. Empire waists hide the stomach area and draw attention to the “girls” above (a great design feature if you were blessed in this bodily area). And the ruffles also help hide the belly, making the dress a great option for anyone who absolutely must hide their stomach. And don’t be afraid of the shorter hemline. Wear with white or print tights to mask the shortness and still look like a lady while sitting.
5. What I Wore Dress: It’s time again to begin planning our Summer wardrobe, and this comfortable sundress with an empire waist will make an excellent addition to any wheelchair-user‘s warm weather repertoire. The fabric is 100% woven Rayon and has a 4 inch stretch in the waist, making it lightweight and non-restrictive. And the pretty turquoise print with marigold and maroon flowers give it a vintage-look that will surely garner you compliments wherever you go. This dress would also look great paired with darker hued leggings or even a pair of skinny jeans for the trendy “Dress & Jeans” look.
